Read Your Bible In A Year Day 10

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 2:03 AM
The Bible readings for January 10 are Genesis 26 & 27 and Matthew 8:1 – 20.  For both readings, I could easily use the expression “Like father, like son.”  Of course, in regards to Jesus it would be “Like Father, Like Son.”  The reason I use this expression is that Issac does the same as his father, Abraham, when he says his wife is really his sister.  The deceitfulness continued on to Jacob, too.  Jacob managed to receive the blessing from Issac, even though it rightfully belonged to his brother, Esau.  The name Jacob even means “deceiver.”  Through it all, God continues to bless Issac and Jacob.  How wonderful to know that God does not give up on us when we do the wrong thing.  We confess our sins and He forgives straightaway.  There is a human side to the story, too.  On losing the blessing, Esau was very angry with Jacob and planned to kill him.  Fortunately, Rebekah heard of Esau’s plan and sent Jacob off to his uncle, Laban.  In Matthew, Jesus comes down from the mountainside and large crowds followed Him.  As His Father said, “I am the LORD that heals you,” so too does Jesus heal people.  In fact, He is willing to heal.  Maybe today we have forgotten His willingness to heal.  Sometimes it took a touch, other times a word at a distance for someone to receive a healing.  Jesus can heal in whatever manner He chooses.  We hear of Peter’s mother-in-law being sick, and Jesus healing her.  Jesus saw her need and met her where she was.  We also have our needs, and Jesus will meet us where we are, too.  Sometimes we can feel we have to jump through hoops to receive Jesus’ healing touch, but nothing is further from the truth.  Jesus heals us where we are because He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
